45,372 Lives Impacted

Nampya Farmers Market is improving livelihoods by creating reliable market access for smallholder farmers and strengthening food supply chains for urban retailers. To date, Nampaya Farmers Market have coordinated the delivery of 46,018 tons of fresh food from over 6,500 farmers to more than 500 food retailers, helping stabilize supply and reduce market uncertainty for both producers and vendors. Through better aggregation, demand coordination, and logistics, their model has prevented over 20,000 tons of food from post-harvest spoilage.

By reducing losses and connecting farmers to consistent buyers, Nampya has generated over USD 1,400,000 in additional income for farmers. This has improved household financial stability, supported reinvestment in climate-smart farming practices, and strengthened rural economic resilience. At the same time, urban food retailers benefit from more reliable and affordable produce, which helps keep fresh food accessible for low- and middle-income consumers.

The Innovation

Nampya Farmers Market is a climate-smart agriculture and food logistics company building resilient food systems in Uganda by connecting smallholder farmers to reliable urban markets. Nampya Farmers Market organize farmers into aggregation networks, coordinate demand from food retailers, and manage logistics that efficiently move fresh produce from rural production zones to urban markets. This system reduces post-harvest losses, stabilizes supply chains, and ensures consistent access to affordable fresh food for urban consumers.

Nampya Farmers Market’s model combines market coordination, data-driven demand planning, and logistics to address fragmentation in food systems. Farmers benefit from predictable sales, fair pricing, and faster payments, while food retailers gain reliable supply and reduced sourcing risks. To date, this approach has enabled more than 6,500 farmers and 500 food retailers to build confidence in the food market, hence gaining ability to plan ahead and invest in improved production and more robust trades.

For scaling, Nampya plans to replicate solar-powered Agri-food cold storage hubs across Uganda and East Africa, extend cold storage services to urban food retailers to reduce city-level waste, and transform farmgate hubs into integrated technical centers offering soil intelligence, climate advisory services, and access to certified inputs alongside storage and aggregation services.

About Nampya Farmers Market

Nampya Farmers Market is a climate-smart agriculture and food logistics company working to transform food systems across Africa. Behind every harvest is a farmer’s effort, yet too often nearly half of that food is lost before it reaches a plate—wasted due to poor infrastructure, limited energy access, and broken market connections. This means lost income for farmers, hunger in cities, and unnecessary strain on the planet. Nampya Farmers Market believe food should never be wasted when people are hungry. They are building a resilient, low-carbon food system where farmers are fairly rewarded, communities have reliable access to fresh food, and every harvest has the chance to fulfill its purpose.
