Smokeless Briqs Energy Solutions is transforming livelihoods in underserved communities by delivering affordable, clean, and reliable energy for cooking and basic electricity. Their innovation directly addresses energy poverty by replacing firewood and charcoal with eco-friendly smokeless briquettes, reducing fuel costs and improving household savings.
To date, Smokeless Briqs have reached over 25,000–35,000 users across 53 rural communities, significantly reducing indoor air pollution. Theirsolution cuts toxic smoke emissions by 50–90% and fuel consumption by 30–60%, leading to improved health outcomes, particularly for women and children. In pilot communities, Smokeless Briqs have recorded up to a 70% reduction in smoke-related illnesses.
Through their Eco-friendly Smokeless Cookstove integrated with TEG technology, over 15,000 households can now generate electricity for mobile charging and lighting, improving education and small business productivity in off-grid areas.
Economically, Smokeless Briqs have created jobs and trained 18 women artisans, while enabling women-led distribution networks that increase incomes. Their IoT-enabled carbon tracking system further supports sustainability by generating carbon credits, with proceeds reinvested into community development.
The Innovation
At Smokeless Briqs Energy Solutions, they have developed clean energy technologies to solve three major problems: Energy Poverty, In-door air pollution and Climate Change in under-served communities in Nigeria.
Smokeless Briqs produce eco-friendly smokeless Pellets and briquettes, made from post-agricultural waste. Their briquettes are made from 100% agricultural waste mostly: Coconut husks, Palm kernel shells, Corn cobs and Rice husks. Smokeless Briqs selected these agricultural wastes because they have Higher Calorific Value and Low Moisture & Ash Content making them burn longer and hotter. They also burn cleaner than ordinary charcoal with minimal smokes, helping to reduce deforestation and indoor air pollution.
Their game-changing eco-friendly smokeless stoves, built from locally sourced recycled metals, feature a stainless steel burn chamber that heats up to 200 degrees in less than 10 minutes, allowing for twice as fast cooking compared to traditional stoves. These stoves integrate their proprietary T.E.G Technology which converts heat from the stove into approximately 30 watts of electricity, providing essential power for mobile phone charging and lighting which is crucial for communities with limited access to electricity. Additionally, they also integrate their IoT technology to track carbon offset and earn carbon credits, further enhancing their environmental impact.
