To mark the occasion, we held a virtual event to welcome the new cohort and hear from current MLC Members and Partners. The event was chaired by Adetunji Eleso, Director of Scale and Sustainability at Grand Challenges Canada and Chair of the Million Lives Collective, and featured both current and new Members as well as MLC Partners.  The event marked a significant milestone in the history of the MLC as this year we are welcoming our third cohort since 2019. To date, the MLC has recognized more than 110  innovations impacting millions of lives globally.

The virtual convening was kicked off by a series of presentations from three longstanding MLC Members that presented how they have benefited from their MLC membership in the last years.

Here are their key remarks:

  • Sarah Grieves, strategic partnership lead at Simprints, shared Simprints’ experience in participating as a speaker to the MLC event on “Privacy, Ethics, and Transparency in Scaling Technologies for Development”. Simprints was also one of the MLC Members that graduated from the ‘Voyager’ to the ‘Vanguard’ category and featured in diverse interviews and blogs as a demonstration of its increased impact and scale.

  • Paul Atwine, Marketing and Communications Officer at Healthy Entrepreneurs, presented his team’s experience as recipients of the MLC / Bayer Foundation Collaboration Grant alongside MLC Member RestoringVision. Paul explained that the project will launch a 12-month pilot to reach people earning $2 per day in remote and isolated villages in Kenya and Uganda with eye health services.  The MLC is also very excited to announce the continuation of the collaboration with the Bayer Foundation in the coming year.

  • Brendah Nantongo, Co-Founder of Kaaro Health, explained how being part of the MLC has helped Kaaro Health grow its network of partners, collaborations, and potential investors, and how this helped to fuel its growth and impact in rural villages in Africa. Turning to recent MLC joiners, Brendah encouraged them to take up all the opportunities and networks the MLC has to offer.

For the startups joining this community, welcome to a community of abundance and be confident and free to take up all the opportunities and networks the MLC has to offer.
— Brendah Nantongo, Co-Founder of Kaaro Health

The event then proceeded to welcome the 10 new joiners of the Million Lives Collective, where each new Member had the chance to briefly present their innovation and respective impact.  The event concluded with a networking session amongst participants where we hope many connections were made which will pave the way to successful collaborations.

Thank you to everyone who participated and a warm welcome to our new Members - we look forward to working together in the coming months!

The event recording is available upon request.
