The Desert Greenhouse Project turns wasted sandy land into arable land fit to grow 30 different kinds of fruits and vegetables.

The Desert Greenhouse Project (DGP) has increased agricultural yields, employments, and incomes and improved of people’s life and ecological environments of the target population. In terms of the increase of agricultural yields, over 2,100 units of built desert greenhouses can produce about 19,000 tons of vegetables and fruits in more than 30 varieties every year. The DGP has been successful in providing vegetable and fruit supplies in desert areas and can also help to create many direct agricultural jobs for planting, daily operation, and harvest of planted vegetables.
Our organization employs 41 full-time employees and additionally, we helped create more than 1,200 jobs related to the operation and management of built desert green houses and to the sales and processing of the agricultural products produced in these green houses.
Our built desert green houses have improved the living conditions of the desert communities and thus also helps to improve the nutritional situation for underserved people through the local production and supply of fresh vegetables and fruits in desert greenhouses. In terms of the improvement of ecological environments, our built desert green houses help reduce and stop desertification and improve the environmental quality of desert communities. For example, it turned more than 1.4 M square meters of desert land into forest land and arable land and helped to greatly reduce sandstorms and stop the expansion of desertification, which is a huge contribution to a sustainable environment in desert regions and in non-desert regions near deserts.
The Innovation
The Desert Greenhouse Project turns waste desert land into productive farming land and forest land. The project helps to increase agricultural yields and employment, raise income and improve the environment. This solution helps to overcome desertification by turning desert land into productive agricultural land. The innovation has been successful in providing vegetable and fruit supplies to people living in desert areas. The project helps to engage farmers and ranchers, communities near or in deserts through various public awareness programs including the use of posters and brochures, workshops and training to increase knowledge amongst the desert communities and residents regarding the reasons methods of stopping and reducing desertification, desert greenhouse solution of utilising the desert land in a sustainable way. The Desert Greenhouse project is not only a great solution for the supply of agricultural products, but also a solution with great environmental and social benefits.
