Network of Safety
MLC Voyager | One Heart Worldwide
One Heart Worldwide (OHW) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving maternal and newborn health in rural Nepal. OHW strengthen healthcare systems through its Network of Safety program by partnering with local governments, healthcare providers, and communities to upgrade birthing clinics, train maternal healthcare practitioners, and educate whole communities on maternal and neonatal care.
981,500 Lives Impacted
The Network of Safety is a system-strengthening innovation that ensures every mother and newborn has access to respectful, high-quality care. Since 2010, OHW has brought this model to life in 32 districts of Nepal, reaching more than 1.5 million women and newborns. OHW’s approach creates a seamless, sustainable continuum of care from pregnancy to postpartum, embedded within local governance and driven by data, equity, and trust.
The Innovation
In the remote highlands and plains of Nepal, the joy of childbirth too often turns into a fight for survival. Every day, women risk their lives simply by becoming mothers—isolated by geography, constrained by poverty, and failed by fragile health systems. But this crisis is not inevitable. It is solvable. One Heart Worldwide’s Network of Safety is proving that with the right model—one that is locally led, community-rooted, and system-focused—we can end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, even in the hardest-to-reach corners of the world.
OHW’s Network of Safety transforms maternal and newborn healthcare by co-investing with local governments to strengthen public health infrastructure, train healthcare providers, and empower communities. OHW’s adaptable six-year intervention ensures equitable access to quality care for all pregnant mothers and newborns in Nepal’s most underserved areas.
By the end of 2025, OHW will have reached over 1.8 million mothers and newborns, but OHW are intent upon scaling to triple its impact by 2030.
