FreshLINK
MLC Voyager | Greenalytic Ltd
FreshLink is an electric cold-chain milk transport tricycle equipped with a 500-litre active cooling tank and a real-time IoT monitoring system that tracks milk temperature and quality throughout transit, streaming live data to an online dashboard accessible by operators, cooperatives, and buyers. Developed by Greenalytic Ltd and piloted in Rwanda, FreshLink serves smallholder dairy farmers who currently lose up to 18% of their milk volume to post-harvest spoilage due to the absence of affordable cold-chain transport infrastructure. By maintaining milk at 4°C from farm to collection center, FreshLink directly addresses the last-mile cold-chain gap that costs Rwanda's dairy sector over USD 17.2 million annually, protecting farmer incomes and improving milk quality across the supply chain.
100 Lives Impacted
FreshLink is directly improving the livelihoods of smallholder dairy farmers in Rwanda by solving the last-mile cold-chain gap that has historically caused up to 18% of milk volume to be lost before reaching the market. By maintaining milk at 4°C throughout transit, FreshLink eliminates spoilage-related rejections at collection centers, enabling farmers to sell more milk at consistent quality and negotiate better prices.
Beyond individual farmers, FreshLink strengthens entire cooperative networks by providing the first real-time IoT visibility into milk temperature and quality during transport — giving collection centers pre-arrival quality data that reduces intake disputes and processing waste. The integrated online dashboard empowers cooperative managers to monitor fleet performance, track volumes, and demonstrate cold-chain compliance to processors and regulators.
In their current pilot, FreshLink serves one Milk Collection Center supporting over 100 farmers. Key milestones include successful prototype validation, a functional IoT monitoring dashboard, and two operational business models — Transport as a Service (RWF 40/litre) and a co-financed Lease-to-Own scheme, designed to remove capital barriers for cooperatives and entrepreneurs. FreshLink project reaching 14,000+ farmers across Rwanda by Year 3.
The Innovation
FreshLink is a solar-assisted electric cargo tricycle developed by Greenalytic Ltd in Rwanda, designed specifically to solve the last-mile cold-chain crisis in smallholder dairy farming. Each unit carries a 500-litre food-grade stainless-steel tank actively cooled to 4°C by an onboard DC compressor, powered by a 72V LiFePO4 battery and a 200W rooftop solar panel enabling 80–120km of range per charge on rural roads.
What makes FreshLink uniquely powerful is its integrated IoT monitoring suite: onboard sensors continuously measure milk temperature, freshness, and pH proxy, transmitting live data every 60 seconds to a cloud dashboard accessible by operators, cooperatives, and buyers via web or mobile app. This creates the first real-time quality audit trail in Rwanda's rural dairy supply chain.
FreshLink is currently piloting at one Milk Collection Center in Rwanda, serving 100+ farmers through two business models: Transport as a Service, charging RWF 40 per litre, and a co-financed Lease-to-Own scheme at USD 5,600 per unit. Scaling plans target 200 units across all 30 Rwandan districts by Year 3, followed by expansion into Uganda and Tanzania by 2030.
