MLC VANGUARD | KickStart International

MoneyMaker Irrigation Pumps are a low-cost irrigation technology for small-scale farmers with a strict ‘farmer driven’ design criteria. The pumps are affordable to buy, easy to operate, strong and portable, with no fuel required and can irrigate up to 2 acres/day helping farmers to grow high-value crops and generate year-round high incomes as well as increasing food security.

1,300,000 Lives Impacted

Multiple studies have measured the impacts of MoneyMakerPumps, showing very significant increases in year-round income and food security for the farmers. Other areas improved include; increased types of crops grown (nutrition), increased cultivated area, and new assets acquired by the household. They use their new incomes to invest in additional money-making assets e.g. livestock, bicycles, improved fam inputs, up-graded pumps, higher education, shops, etc.

The average new net-annual-incomes from irrigation made by farmers using MoneyMaker pumps in East Africa, measured over multiple studies is~$700 per pump per year.

With year-round high incomes & food security they invest in improved farm inputs, profitable new enterprises, education & health care & climb out-of-poverty

The Innovation

Since 1998, KickStart has designed and promoted very low-cost MoneyMakerbranded irrigation pumps. These pumps enable small-scale farmers to grow, harvest and sell high-value crops throughout the year—especially in long dry seasons when food is scarce and prices are high. The farmers earn large new year-round incomes, make additional income-generating investments and take major steps out of poverty.

About KickStart International

KickStart International is an award winning non-profit (501c3) social enterprise founded in 1991
-We believe that the number one need of the poor is a way to make a lot more money
-The best way for millions of small-scale farmers in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to substantially increase their incomes is to move from ‘rain-fed subsistence farming’ to ‘commercial irrigated agriculture’. Since 1998, KickStart has designed and promoted very low-cost MoneyMaker branded irrigation pumps. These pumps enable small-scale farmers to grow, harvest and sell high-value crops throughout the year—especially in long dry seasons when food is scarce and prices are high.
