Akashganga - Simple ICT solutions for dairy sector

MLC Vanguard | Created by Shree Kamdhenu Electronics Pvt. Ltd.

Akashganga offers an innovative one-stop shop for rural milk cooperatives by introducing complete automation all functions using effective computer technology. It establishes trust in the cooperative system by using a machine to measure the weight of each farmer's milk, and by paying farmers accurately and on time.

2,760,000 Lives Impacted

A documented survey/study report has shown that:

  1. Increase in number of farmers pouring milk has increased by 20% and thus contributing proportional increase in income of the house hold.

  2. Increase in quality of milk poured at the collection centers with our system has been almost 31%: confirming faith in the system and resulting in enhanced house hold income.

  3. A combined effect resulted in increased price realization by the participants by 23% overcoming the human error and other coherent weakness of the traditional method

  4. The error face testing method and the transparency of the system resulted in an average increase of 33% in the fat content of milk: ploughing back this money to the income of the rural population.

  5. The opportunity cost involved is considerably high and the areas where this system is not installed, nearly 50% of the farmers do not supply milk to the Dairy Cooperatives.

The Innovation

Twice a day, farmers in rural India gather to sell their milk to their respective dairy cooperative societies (DCS). Weighing, testing of fat content to determine quality, and pricing are all done manually, resulting in long lines, large staff requirements, and inaccurately recorded information. Extended wait times frequently cause milk to spoil in hot weather. Corruption and poor infrastructure often results in payments being held up, making life difficult for farmers who depend on dairy farming as an important primary or supplementary source of income.

AKASHGANGA is innovative as before its launch milk collection was done manually. There was some scope for manipulation by the milk testers and collector on quality and quantity of milk. AKASHGANGA introduced microprocessor-based system covering electronic weighing machine, electronic milk tester, a data processor, and a printer. Each farmer is identified through code number written in an identification (ID) card. This system helps in faster collection of milk, reliable measurement of fat and weight, and speedy payment to the farmers. However, it lacks complex data analysis. To obviate this AKASHGANGA further introduced PC-based milk collection systems. Such system uses a PC instead of a microprocessor. It has the capability to store individual milk collection details, undertake yearly analysis of data, facilitate complete financial accounting of the cooperative society, maintain records of cattle feed, ghee and other local milk sale of the society and maintain records of the member's assets.
