Our mission is to enable every person to realize their aspirations for better health. We focus on giving users on-demand, trusted, and actionable health information that helps them to make more informed and supported decisions about their health. Our interactive chat service, askNivi, is available 24/7 through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and SMS making it simple for men, women, and youth to learn facts about sexual and reproductive health, and to get personalized recommendations and referrals.

Our original intent was to serve the world focusing on 1 billion young people in low- and middle-income countries between 15 and 35 years of age with access to a mobile phone. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have accelerated our global scale-up making our COVID conversations available, initially, to 2 billion Facebook users via Messenger.

The Innovation

Nivi’s flagship product, askNivi, works via a model known as engage, chat, act. Through popular messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, askNivi makes it simple for those with the most basic internet-enabled phones and low digital literacy to engage with health information. Its AI-powered chat makes accessing health content as easy as a conversation. When it comes to accessing a health service or product, askNivi empowers consumers to act with nudges, reminders, and referrals.

Nivi partners with commercial, nonprofit and public organizations to derive insights on anonymized user trends and patterns and target marketing to well defined market segments. We apply a unique mix of public health and commercial expertise incorporating design, behavioral science and technology to create a successful business meeting health consumer needs globally.

In March of 2020, we noticed in-bound questions about coronavirus from Nivi users in Kenya and made the critical decision to begin developing COVID-19 conversations anticipating our partners' need for the content. The first week of April, we launched our initial 17 conversations on COVID-19, amplifying public health messaging to address both the COVID-19 pandemic and an "infodemic" of misinformation. The end of April we launched a global version of the COVID conversations to amplify health authorities messaging.
